During the last several months, I’ve had the opportunity to speak with industry leaders and experts. And if there is one common thread, it’s that the best leaders all have a keen understanding of what their team needs to succeed from years of learning every discipline of their operations.
Case in point, Kathy George, CEO, FireKeepers Casino Hotel, Battle Creek, Michigan. She started off in bingo and has hands-on experience in just about every department along with a degree from Cornell University School of Hotel Administration.
In today’s interview, she shared that she always knew she wanted to be a General Manager, and her path to get there, working for several major organizations, as well as her Tribe. Thirty-five years later, she’s developed into a very sensitive leader with a superior background in hospitality management.
We talk about the decisions she’s faced as a CEO in the last several months including changing their resort to non-smoking, proceeding with construction on a second tower and the commitment of the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi and the team at FireKeeper’s on being stewards of the community.
